Are You Afraid of Speaking in Public?

Have you ever been in a position where you had to speak in front of a crowd and mentally blacked out?

  1. I had a slight nervousness. I actually thought I was a good speaker beacuse I wasn't nervous. I realize after studying the craft and how to properly structure a speech that I was terrible. Once you get serious about it you will divert that nervousness somewhere else.

  2. Public Speaking has always been a fear of mine. While I have accomplished the task many times I just cannot seem to get used to it. It is easier if I am very knowledgeable on the subject matter but I am still fearful. I know that my shyness and self consciousness is the main cause. It’s a shame because with my credentials I could very easily moonlight as a College Instructor or even be a trainer.

So how does one overcome the fear of speaking in public?

  3. Do what your fear most is the only way to overcome your fears. That's probably what you were not expecting, but it's that simple.

  4. I agree with Regie to say that you just have to do what you fear most. You have just jump in there and hope for the best. I've never been paid to speak but have given presentations and taught a few classes. I'm always nervous before, fretting about it days before, but once I'm started it always works out.
